AQW 487/07 Written question to the Minister of Education
To ask the Minister of Education what steps will be taken to ensure that teaching and non-teaching staff in schools are adequately protected from, and supported when subject to physical assault and abuse from pupils and parents; and whether consideration has been given to adopting a similar approach and protocols, as are now operational in the health service.

My Department is currently reviewing existing guidance on security and personal safety in schools and the support available to staff. The Department has received representations from education stakeholders on this issue and, in continuing with this review, intends to examine the protocols of other organisations including those of the health service.
